Oldies but goodies...no not mom, the pictures!

So it's mom's fault as she wanted me to post more blogs. Well, you asked, so here ya go! I ran across these from her b-day party when she turned...hmmm....better not mention that number or she might think twice about coming early to help me get ready for Thanksgiving this year. So we'll just say, it was one of her fabulous birthday years:)

Thanksgiving past

Ok, so as I was pulling pictures for our latest 'home update' post I ran across old photos of the first time I hosted Thanksgiving for my family. As many of you know, this is the first year as a Wife and in our new home, that I'm hosting Thanksgiving!! I'm very excited!! So, in the spirit of getting into the fall season I'm going to post these. Plus there are pics of my first house and of course updating as all of you know once you are a home owner you are always updating!

This particular year, mom and dad came down as well as Sean, Kris and Myles. Myles was just learning to walk and my hardwood floors were giving him a run for his money. To preface the story, I had a house warming party the week before where I got a great bottle of wine, Caymus Conundrum (no longer avail for sale in PA...darn state stores). I had also gone to Herman, MO for a wine tasting where I'd gotten some cheap MO wines. Dad had sent me off to the store to get some ingredient for the feast and of course, when I came back he was cooking w/ the $$ bottle of wine and not the cheap-o wine. Dinner of course was excellent!

Our home....updated

From start to almost finish. We still have some finishing touches, but we have a sink and have done plenty of cooking in our new kitchen.

Christmas in Sept....almost

It was the night before our kitchen was to be complete and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even The Mouse (yes....we have a fury little visitor). Seriously though Wes and I were both so excited Wednesday night as our granite was arriving on Thursday which meant we would have a sink, tile backsplash and we could finally unpack our kitchen and dining room! Well things don't always turn out they way we want them. They ordered the wrong size sink, so had to find it to fed ex it and they put a seam in our island which to me was not acceptable. So that turned Christmas into Christmas Eve. Luckily we were able to have the tile guys come later on Friday. But that meant no running water.

Friday came around, the granite showed up and so did the sink! However the new granite for the island was now double the size of what we wanted. We asked for 26" and got 42". The guy was like "free granite!" Unfortunately our dining room is narrow we wouldn't have room for our table. Needless to say the guys who carried in the huge piece of granite were not happy their boss screwed up the size as now they had to wrestle it back out our not so wide entry way.

So again we were excited as we could paint (see pictures for Christmas themed painting). Once we were done we realized our vision while fitting our festive mood, didn't quite turn out as we would have liked. I'll post the final versions later.

So it's Monday, our second piece of granite is supposed to be here at 9:00. Our contractor who didn't come this weekend was here at 7:15 am to install our sink. I laid the guilt into him last night around 8:30 when he called and said he couldn't make it. He's new at the game and has overbooked himself due to scheduling pushback. I totally understand but in the business world I say "Not my problem". As I explained to him, my problem is that I'm tired of doing dishes in the tub and getting all our water from the bathroom sink. Oh and the fact we invited friends over tonight for a party to celebrate it being done. Ok, that's a half truth. We really invited them over for the Eagles vs Cowboys Monday Night Football game, but wouldn't have if we didn't have a finished kitchen:)

So in the spirit of tonight I'll sign off with a little pep cheer "E-A-G-L-E-S....Eagles!"

Delivery Day

Our PODS finally arrived! No more airmattress. Thanks to Mr and Mrs C and Blitz (their new Golden) we have one room almost put together and can finally sit on a couch to watch TV. It's great! Also inlcuded some pics of our first home project. Ripping up the carpet. I am so glad we did, the hardwoods turned out wonderful!

Does it count?

We are only in the 2nd week (note 1 week was in NE) of our home renovations today. We found out that our revised deck order wasn't ordered so we will probably have 3/4of a deck for 2 more weeks. There is a 15 day delay on getting or 'PODS' aka 'Beds/Funiture/Home' delivered. So the air mattress, paper plate routine will continue. They think that I should have remembered signing a piece of paper that says "15 days delivery notice" on the day I'm packing and moving my entire home counts as a binding contract that Oh by the way, I can request a copy because they don't leave one, is OK! I'll be calling their supervisor tomorrow.

So until then we have our routine...fill the airmatress no later than 10:30 PM and pray you are the first one up in the morning as the other one hits the floor the minute you get up as it's deflated overnight.

Comcast still hasn't figured out why I can call you, but you can't call me.

And because we ripped out the vanitey to redo hardwood floors in the one bathroom with the only working shower you now have to go to the one that smells like pee to wash your hands. I aksed Wes this afternnon if it counted as washing your hands when you stick them in the back of the toliet to fix the broken flapper:)

The good news is, we are still in high spirits. We can still see the end of the road. I'll let ya know next week how we are handling things. We actually have weekend guest! April must be a dear dear friend to put up with our camping conditions.

Bike Race '08

US Pro Cycling Championship comes through our 'old' neighborhood every year. Our friends have a place on the infamous Wall. The racers loop through the city multiple times amounting to approx 2oo miles. When they come to Manayunk they make a sharp right hand turn and head up a hill that's incline is so steep you get tired just walking up it. Lance Armstrong used to do participate in this cycling series before he would do the Tour de France to get him in shape. This year was the hottest ever with the heat index over 100 degrees!
